United Arab Emirates. From rags to millions
In half a century, the United Arab Emirates have gone from the Bedouin fringes of the Persian Gulf to one of the nerve centers of globalization. This meteoric rise is based neither on a pan-Arab ideology nor on an authoritarian state merger, but on a pragmatic federalism, unique in the Arab world, articulated with a strategy of commercial, maritime and security intermediation.
