An agreement for a federated state of Kalédony

Hello everyone,

While negotiations are currently taking place in Noumea between the central government and the independence leaders with a view to moving forward on the basis of an agreement, the association renews its hope that this will lead to a peace agreement for the establishment of a “Federated State of Kalédony”.

Although the search for common identity signs relating to the country name and the flag was not the subject of a call for competition among the Caledonian population as for the anthem, the motto, etc., the association here takes up, with the term “Kalédony”, the proposal of one of its members.

You will also find below a 6-page document provided by him explaining not only his approach but the term Kalédony so that it achieves consensus.

Country name explanation
The association believes that this could lead to greater support than the “Kanaky agreements” as proposed by pro-independence MP E. Tjibaou.

Although the association recognizes that in the long term the name Kanaky will apply to the country, it would be appropriate in a transitional period of 15 years for example (equivalent to the validity period of an identity card) to adopt the term Kalédony by merging the terms Kanaky and Calédonie in order to represent in a single term the different communities representing current New Caledonia.

At the end of this transition period, the term Kanaky could be adopted without popular consultation because it is included in the agreements which will be submitted to a referendum and thus move from New Caledonia to Kanaky, like our Melanesian neighbor who moved from the New Hebrides to Vanuatu in 1980 and whose Vanuatu population is no longer referred to today, even among the non-independence Caledonian leaders.

We wish you a good read and remind you that federalism is the only solution to reconcile unity in diversity.
