The advantages of federalism
Hello everyone,
The APROFED association is coming back to you at the end of this week to share 3 articles detailing the advantages of federalism.
You can find all of these articles at the following links:
– The advantages and fundamental principles of federalism – Journal of Freedoms
– Federalism, a recipe for an effective democracy – The Bull
– 3.6: Advantages and disadvantages of federalism – Global
In summary, federalism allows us to :
– to limit nepotism (clientelism) and the central state’s concentration of all power,
– to reduce the size of government and improve the efficiency of public policies,
– to fight against an overly centralized state,
– to avoid interference by the central government in the affairs of local authorities,
– reduce government intrusion into the economy,
– flexibility in public policy,
– to improve citizen participation in collective decisions,
– to bring elected officials closer to citizens
– a better separation of powers,
– to promote innovation,
– to a single, courageous federated state , if its citizens so wish, to serve as a laboratory and attempt new social and economic experiments without endangering the rest of the country,
– create two levels of government with the capacity to act.
He thus demonstrates that federal states like Germany and Switzerland, both federal, have better indicators than their neighbors like France and Italy, unitary or even hybrid (regional) states such as:
– lower public spending and debt,
– a better global freedom index,
– a higher GDP per capita,
– a better happiness index,
– a better global innovation index,
– and finally, greater trust in the government.
