Summary of interview with former Prime Minister E. Philippe on 08/11/2024

Hello everyone,

The association is getting back to you this week to provide you with  a summary of the testimony dated 11 August by the former Prime Minister, Edouard Philippe, on current events in New Caledonia and the federated state solution .  

We learn in particular that:

– according to the commentator,  New Caledonia is already in a federal form  apart from 2 to 3 competences and  that it is an equidistant solution ,

– the former Prime Minister responding that  the federal form constitutes a difficulty for the Republic to move from a unitary republic to a federation ,

– if this solution continues to be implemented in New Caledonia,  this risks posing a problem for the Republic because other communities may also request it,

– the inventiveness of the implementation in New Caledonia of the federal form via the Matignon and Noumea agreements will pose a problem ( if it continues ) for Constitutional law and for the Republic itself,  

– as a result, the  federal solution may not  be  accepted in  Paris . The former Prime Minister reaffirmed a second time that: not sure that Paris would want it.
