The European Union and federalism

Hello everyone,

The APROFED association is back with you a few days before the European elections to share an article it has written on federalism and the European Union.

Built to avoid further conflict and with a view to a shared destiny, European countries have thus turned to the federal solution. Initially, a confederation based on the Swiss model, with the ultimate goal of a full federation modeled on the American model, which unfortunately has been slow to be implemented.

France, in a perpetual spirit of singularism, is blocking this ultimate transformation which would allow the election of a president and a single government elected on a European scale, something demanded by all its neighbors, even the most centralizing ones like Spain and Italy.

This stubbornness does not bode well not only for the European Union but also for New Caledonia with a view to a local agreement aimed at proposing a federal solution to resolve the current crisis.

Wishing you a good read and reminding you that only federalism would allow us to solve the current Caledonian problem.
