New Zealand Prime Minister presents a solution for New Caledonia
Hello everyone,
The APROEFD association is coming back to you this weekend to share with you an article by Eric Descheemaeker, professor of law at the University of Melbourne, published two weeks ago on the site revueconflits.com and reprinted by the site actu.nc , entitled: New Caledonia, like the Cook Islands?
We learn in particular that the New Zealand Prime Minister, Christopher Luxon, on a visit to Paris, is said to have handed a note to the President of the Republic, Emmanuel Macron, recommending the Cook Islands model to resolve the Caledonian problem.
The association reminds its members and readers that it has already produced an article on this subject on its website at the following link: The example of the Cook Islands – APROFED
If the example of the Cook Islands refers to the notion of the associated State and that the association rather carries the approach of a federated State, we recall that these 2 notions present certain similarities and remain the only 2 paths for the institutional future of New Caledonia as recalled by JJ Urvoas, former Minister of Justice (see avenir-nouvelle-caledonie_
We therefore congratulate New Zealand for this approach to mediation and the search for solutions for New Caledonia and, returning to it the question of knowing if the future of the territory were unfortunately to be without France, would New Zealand be ready to consider integrating a supra-national structure of the federal type, with a view to constituting with all the States of the Pacific zone, a sort of United States of Oceania, as we propose in the framework of our solution n°2 on our site (see without France – APROFED ).
The question is asked.

We wish you a good read and remind you that federalism is the only solution to reconcile unity in diversity.
