Federalism is no longer just a hobbyhorse of a few regionalist parties. According to an IFOP poll published on August 25, 2025, 71% of French people support a federal France that would significantly strengthen the power of its regions. “It’s a sign of distrust towards the state,” the polling institute summarizes. In historical Brittany, this support climbs to nearly 80%, and to over 85% in Alsace.
