Federalism: The return of the nonconformists?
The “nonconformists” of the 1930s were a group of thinkers who broke away from both a historically monarchist or Bonapartist right wing and a Marxist left wing. Faithful to the principle of subsidiarity, echoing the beginnings of the Church’s social doctrine (Leo XIII), these personalist thinkers advocated a federal organization of states and the world as a solution for ensuring the survival of democracy and peace in the face of the threats of their time.
