Federalism is a strength not a weakness

Essentially, federalism involves both a national federal government and a state or provincial government, each operating in a distinct area over which it has exclusive constitutional authority. In Malaysia, the states have their distinct identities, and it was these different identities and histories that led to the adoption of a federal structure in 1948.

Federalism ensures a plurality of viewpoints and even policies. The Malaysian federal system helps to guarantee this pluralism.
