Emmanuel Macron or shameful federalism.
Hello everyone,
The APROFED association is coming back to you this week to share with you a political editorial broadcast on Europe1 in May 2024 entitled: Emmanuel Macron or Shameful Federalism.
This editorial follows an interview given by the President of the Republic to the British weekly The Economist on Emmanuel Macron’s vision of Europe.
According to the editorialist, we learn that Emmanuel Macron is a federalist but refuses to say so, that he prefers not to say the word, hence the description of shameful federalism.
According to the editorialist, the president dreams of a United States of Europe.
Let’s hope he applies this vision to New Caledonia as well. The content of the martyred document proposed in 2023 on the territory’s institutional future following the Noumea Accords unfortunately suggests otherwise.
As a reminder, in 2017, the president proposed a “Girondin pact” to French local authorities aimed at granting them greater autonomy and more power. Five years later, a law called “3DS” (differentiation, decentralization, deconcentration) was intended to embody this pact. Described as a catch-all law, it was quickly deemed insufficient.
Let us hope that this will not be the case with New Caledonia and that if a new federal agreement is reached, it will be on a par with that of Matignon-Oudinot and that of Noumea, meeting the expectations of the local population.
