Cameroonian federalism: the burial of 1972 and its ghosts

Research shows that attitudes toward the current form of government are positively correlated with support for a federation. In other words, the more dissatisfied Cameroonians are with the unitary system, the more they gravitate toward the federal idea. It remains to be seen whether the central government in Yaoundé is ready to consider such a shift. For now, the Cameroonian government is relying on repression and dialogue with armed groups, without questioning the dogma of national unity at all costs.
