Cameroon – Redistricting: the UDC demands federalism now

The territorial debate is raging in Cameroon. Meeting on December 12 and 13, 2025, the Cameroon Democratic Union (UDC) rejected the proposed redrawing of the national territory put forward by the Ministry of Territorial Administration. In a statement published on December 26 in Yaoundé, the party denounced a “closed” approach and demanded an inclusive process leading to a clear transition to federalism. In a tense post-election climate, this political statement sounds like a warning. Can the government still proceed unilaterally?
